This guide explains two methods for loading Data Packs into Minecraft: using a loader mod (recommended for ease of use) and loading them manually (useful for custom configurations or unsupported packs).
Loading Automatically: Data Pack Loader Mod (Recommended)
CurseForge supports integration with several Data Pack Loader mods to streamline the installation process. When installing a Data Pack through CurseForge, you’ll be prompted to add one of the following supported loaders:
- Open Loader by DarkhaxDev
- Global Data Packs by Declipsonator
- Global Packs by JTK222
- Paxi (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge) by YUNGNICKYOUNG
Steps:
- Install any of the supported loader mods via the CurseForge App.
- Launch the profile where the loader is installed.
- Data Packs will now be auto-loaded into every new world created under that profile.
*If you want to change your data pack loader mod to another one, simply uninstall the unwanted data pack loader and install any of the other ones to your profile.
Load Data Packs Manually
This method is useful if no loader mod supports your specific Data Pack, or if you prefer direct control over installation.
*If you want to load Data Packs into an existing world, scroll to the end of the article.
1. Locate the Data Packs Folder
Open your profile’s datapacks folder: .../curseforge/minecraft/Instances/{profile_name}/datapacks/
You can access it through the CurseForge Client or your file system.
2. Launch Minecraft from the CurseForge Client
Launch the relevant Minecraft profile through the CurseForge App. Keep the Data Packs folder open in the background.
3. Create a New World & Enter Data Packs
From the main menu:
- Click "Singleplayer" → and under your New World click "More" → "Data Packs"
4. Drag and Drop
Go back to your profile’s local datapacks folder. Drag the datapack zip file directly into the Minecraft Data Pack window.
5. Activate Data Pack
Click ‘Play’ icon on your new Data Pack under the ‘Available’ list, so it moves under the ‘Selected’ list
6. Confirm & Create
Click “Done”, then “Create New World” and the game will load the Data Pack with your new world.
Loading datapacks into an existing world
Drag the zip file from the profile’s datapacks folder: .../your_profile_name/datapacks/
into your world’s folder:
.../your_profile_name/saves/your_world_name/datapacks
